About Insect Shield®Safety Coveralls & More
In 2003, Insect Shield, LLC, was granted the first-ever United
States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration for
insect-repellent clothing. Insect Shield Insect Repellent Apparel
was launched later that year by the Orvis and ExOfficio clothing
brands. Since then has treated millions of garments for both the
consumer market and the U.S. Department of Defense. Insect Shield
Repellent Apparel is now offered by many brands, including L. L.
Bean, and is sold through such retailers as REI and Gander Mountain,
in addition to being worn by members of the U.S. Military. We also
offer safety coveralls for those insect laden work areas.
The active ingredient in Insect Shield products is permethrin, a
man-made version of a natural insect repellent found in certain
chrysanthemums. Permethrin-treated clothing is tried-and-true insect
protection. It requires nothing more than getting dressed.
Insect Shield Repellent Apparel products are U.S. EPA registered
to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges
(no-see-ums) through 70 launderings. Insect Shield Repellent Gear
products are EPA registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, flies, and
fleas through 25 launderings. Insect Shield Repellent
Apparel Care
Insect Shield apparel can be machine washed and dried, and ironed
at normal temperatures, but DO NOT DRY CLEAN. Dry cleaning solvents
degrade the repellency.
